Family Pictures

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well. JC and I are eagerly anticipating the Thanksgiving Holiday just around the corner! I wanted to let everyone know that I will be happy to take any family photos while everyone is in town for Thanksgiving for Christmas cards and gifts and such. No pressure, but I would be more tha happy to offer my services (for free of course). Maybe we could set up some times for those who are interested - I was thinking either on Thanksgiving while everyone is dressed nice at the Ranch before the football game or maybe we can even wait and do something on Saturday too! Can't wait to see you all! ~ Jordan

Greetings from Texas, home of 90-degrees Octobers! Just wanted to send a quick update. It's hard to believe the last three plus months have gone by so fast. I'm in my last week of fire school----LIVE FIRE BURNS. This is what we've worked up to. I don't have a lot of good photos, but these two should suffice for now. One is of a car on fire (I think KFD bought it from John the pastor). There may not be much visible flame, but trust me, the car was burning. In case you're wondering, all of the props we burn have propane pipes running under them that we use for the fire. Anyway, in the pic of the car, I am the one holding the nozzle. In the other photo, I took it because it shows some of the strange behavior of fire. In this one, the nozzleman has the stream as wide as possible, which creates a barrier to keep the fire away. The third person on the line then crawls around to the front, reaches up, and shuts off a valve to stop the supply of gas. The rest of the week should be fun as well, as we'll spend one day in a metal "burn building," where we put out fires of burning hay, and one night putting out fires. If I get some good shots of those, I'll post those as well.
Jennifer is doing great. After a very stressful Homecoming week a few weeks ago, she has recovered and is back in her normal routine. She also ran in, and finished, her first 5K last Saturday. We had other friends running with her, which helped out a lot. Now if only her husband would join her... We hope all of you are having a great fall season so far! Take care.

I wanted to share a photo blog that I have set-up of some of my photography - mainly because there are photos of Logan, Faith and Marty and Julia's wedding. You are welcome to save the photos to your own computer if you like! The link is www.jordancunningsphotography.blogspot.com . Have a blessed week!

Browns update

Hey everyone, hope you all are doing well. Just thought I'd post an update on fire school. I'm about half way done, and things are going well. Some of the highlights have been rapelling off of a 7-story building, and cutting up a car with the jaws of life. It's hard for me to imagine that I get paid to do these things. We also got to participate in a team building exercise called a church raise. A long time ago (probably John's first or second year preaching), churches had now way to change lightbulbs that were way up in the top of the sanctuary. So they called in the fire department, the only group with ladders tall enough to reach the fixtures. However, because of the height, the ladders had to be raised straight into the air, forcing the firefighter who climbed the ladder to trust those below who heeled (kept steady) the ladder and those who manned ropes coming off of the ladder to keep it upright. Fire departments and academies have church raises as a way of teaching the trust that is required in this profession. There is a picture of me as I climb over a 24-foot extension ladder. I also included one during a rapel off of the Plaza Hotel, the tallest building in Killeen. In this one I had to stop myself, lock my rope so I wouldn't rapel any further, then flip upside down and let go of the rope.

Jennifer started school last week, and things seem to be starting off well. She has two classes of sophomores, and four classes of seniors, so she won't have a problem staying busy. She also continues to take care of me with my breakfast and lunch every day. There really ought to be some kind of award or something. I can't believe it will be four years in December. That's all from the Heart of Texas for now. The Lone Star State sends its best to all.

Its all in the roots

Move # 13. Since the middle of May, all of our household goods have been in temp storage as we moved to GA, and we have been living with a suitcase of clothes, and a blow-up mattress. My sanity walked out back around week 3. (Oddly, no one has even noticed.) However, as of Friday, we now have our furniture and 300 boxes of "goods" waiting to be arranged and/or opened. Thanks for your prayers! Some of the boxes have been untouched since move #6, 1991. And it does pay to horde at times...(read that carefully). I'm finding pristine Pretty Ponies, original Transformers, and a very lonely "My Buddy" that I'm returning to his owner via Sunday services. I even found a little tie...

Seriously, all that to say that we have come to the end of this 'move maddness' we would endure every 2-3 years for the last 30. All the times we pulled the kids from their home, friends, teams, schools -- only to ask them to start over-- but always be ready to repeat the drill at a moments notice...and give up their dad for months on end while they lived with uncertainty. And for the times they were always the new kids in the neighborhood...the only kids in the "Youth Group" at church, and when they were each others only friends...we ALWAYS had you guys!! We knew that you were there praying for us, calling and checking, visiting...sending up your prayers and petitions on our behalf. We could count on you to be the stabilizing factor we needed, and so you were...and so you are. The Lord is gracious is ALL His ways!!

NOW we are privileged to be one of you. One of the stable, one of the proud. I bought address labels in a packs or 500 instead of 50, painted my first room, and bought my first refrigerator. I planted perennials instead of annuals, and already have a bag of tulip bulbs to put down this fall, for next year. We have a guest room AND an overnight grand-kids room...and they are both full of toys :) We met with the session Sunday to become members of CMPC (thanks to JSB for not airing all the family laundry). And finally, to seal the deal, I got a Georgia Drivers Licence, and voters registration card. Someone whose name rhymes with Billery does not stand a chance. Wow. We actually have a lasting home of record now.

Thanks for listening and for always being there for us since our first move to Camp Lejeune in January 1978. Now its OUR turn to be there for you!! Praise the Lord for watching over us all!

Simply the Best

Hey everyone. I am back from the Blue Fields...it's just a little more special place to visit now that Logan Matthew Nyhuis has been added to the list of births, at old Bluefield Regional. The fog lifted a little earlier this morning as I headed out...the sun shone a little brighter...its great being a Nana again. I can't tell you how blessed I feel to have been there when Logan was born...thankful that the induction went well, that he is healthy and growing, and that the Lord watched over Julia, Marty, and Logan as they became a family of three. The miracle of birth watching Logan grace our family, and the reminder of rebirth in the family of the Lord...we are so blessed! Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. I am sure more pics will grace the blog as time goes on. He has already changed so much in a week. I think I heard him say Nana once or twice...they grow up so fast! Can you tell I miss all three of them?

Browns update

Hello everyone, just wanted to give you all an update on what we're doing. As I probably told most of you at the beach, I was very close to getting hired by the Killeen, TX fire department and going through its fire academy. Well, God was graceful and everything came together and I got the job! I am about to finish my second week of fire school. The information I've learned has been very interesting. So has the physical torture, err, I mean physical training. No, I haven't learned how to slide down a fire pole, nor have I haven't driven a fire truck sounded the siren. I feel very fortunate to be married to such a wonderful woman, who gets up with me at 5:30 a.m. every morning, makes my breakfast and lunch, has dinner ready when I walk in the door around 6:30 every night, and washes my uniform clothes every couple of days. I'm sure some of that is the McNutt in her. You may wonder what a fireman wears. Well, above is a picture of what is known as "bunker gear." Yes, it is very hot, and we wear it while doing lots of pushups. I look forward to adding updates (and maybe a pic or two when I can sneak one) soon. Hope everyone is doing well.

Our sincerest congrats goes out to Marty and Julia on the addition of Logan to the family! And we hope everyone else in the clan is doing great as well. Take care.

ASSESS YOUR GIFT OF PROPHECY

I think it's time for the McNutt Baby Betting Game. While this may be the only type of gambling permitted on the Grapevine, we are a prodigious and fecund family, so future events are assured. In fact a WHO'LL BE PREGNANT NEXT category has been suggested. But back to the first entry in the MBBC: Logan Matthew. Better known by his friends as YO HO LO which, given the population demographics by the time he is a teen, is understandable. So tap into your higher powers, or call your favorite bookie via China or Pakistan and enter one or all of the following: date of birth, weight, length. And don't forget gender... hey, it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings...wait, that really did not come out right, Julia please forgive me...I was thinking of your Mother, December 1978.

Why Blog?

What does blog mean? What is the object of blogging? What about blogging etiquette? Can one become a blogaholic? What are blogging demographics? When is the annual blogarama? Why does Harley remind me of those early pictures of Lady Di? Answer if you are real, Blog Wizard.

TESTING

Testing. Testing. This is a test. It is only a test. If this were an actual blog, I would say something profound. Stay tuned!

Addition in Cunnings Family!!!

"Five years ago our Golden, Rhett, died the day we were
leaving for California. He was with the family for a
long time, and loved you all! Now that John is retired
and can be home to train a dog not to be a sissy
(What...like I would have done??) we adopted a 3 yr old
Golden this week from an agency in Atlanta. They have
all Golden Retrievers--all looking for a home...now one
less. His name is Harley and was found wandering the
Blueridge Parkway, dragging a long chain. He is very
underweight but that will not last long! He will see
you at Thanksgiving or sooner! "
